Alicia Keys is an American singer-songwriter and pianist who is known for her incredible voice. Born Alicia Augello Cook, Jan. 25, 1981, Keys was raised in the Hells Kitchen area of New York City. Keys began playing classical music as a child and graduated as valedictorian from Professional Performing Arts School at the age of 16. She attended Columbia University briefly before pursuing a career in music.
Her debut album, Songs in A Minor was a huge commercial success. She became the best-selling new artist and the best-selling R&B artist of 2001. The album earned five Grammy Awards in 2002. Her follow up, The Diary of Alicia Keys was equally successful spawning such hits as If I Ain’t Got You.
