How to play Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns N’ Roses

Guns N’ Roses is an American hard rock band that created a stir in the late 1980s and early 1990s with its rebelliousness and punk attitude.

The band is a fusion of punk rock, blues-rock, heavy metal and hard rock. The band’s image and sound is largely based on Finnish band Hanoi Rocks, of which Guns N’ Roses lead singer Axl Rose has collaborated.

The band was also influenced by bands like The Rolling Stones and Rose Tattoo. The band’s debut album carries influences of AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, the New York Dolls as well as Hanoi Rocks. However, Guns N’ Roses has also influenced their own share of bands.

The original band was formed by members of the bands Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns. The lineup quickly changed, however. The new group skyrocketed to success with their debut album Appetite for Destruction. Through the years the lineup has changed several times but lead singer Axl Rose has been the only one who has remained with the group throughout the changes.

Some history about Sweet Child Of Mine by Guns N Roses

Sweet Child O’ Mine is the third single by Guns N’ Roses, an American rock band. The song was the band’s only number-one single in the US. It reached number six on the UK Singles Chart.

The song has an incredible riff but Slash has gone on record saying he didn’t like the song because it was meant to be a “string skipping” exercise and it was actually a joke at the time. The riff came about as Slash and drummer Steven Adler were warming up and Slash began to play what he called a “circus” melody while making faces at Adler. Izzy Stradlin asked Slash to repeat it and lead singer Axl Rose heard what was going on and began to write some lyrics to it. Duff McKagan has said the song was written in about five minutes and meant to be filler on the album.

Instead the song got a lot of acclaim. It placed #37 on Guitar World’s list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos, # 3 on Blender’s 500 Greatest Songs Since You Were Born and #196 on Rolling Stone’s The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The infamous riff was also voted number one riff of all-time by the readers of Total Guitar magazine.
